• Sport Careers Agency client Simon McMenemy looks ahead to a title defence in Indonesia with the UK still in his sights.

The Indonesian top-flight season starts this weekend and Sport Careers Agency client Simon McMenemy and his side Bhayangkara FC are looking to successfully defend their Indonesian Liga 1 title this season.

Taking the club from a mid-table unfancied proposition to champions in one season, McMenemy became the first British coach to win the Indonesian championship and is looking to continue building his already stellar reputation which will hopefully lead to a return to football in the UK.

Having turned down job offers from Malaysia, Thailand and even South Africa recently, McMenemy has his sights set on a return to the UK when the opportunity arises, despite having a great reputation in Asia, it doesn't seem to have translated over here yet.

A few years back, Clyde FC turned down the chance to take on the promising coach as he had never managed in Scotland previously, despite the fact that he had impressively led the lowly Philippines national team to the semi-finals of the 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup - the region's major international championship.

A good comparison for McMenemy would be Graham Potter at Ostersunds FK, Potter has made a name for himself in Sweden, winning titles, doing well in Europe against all odds etc, now his name is being thrown around for future top jobs in the English Premier League, perhaps the case will be the same for Simon McMenemy soon enough?

It seems like it's only a matter of time, proven talent and success in the game is hard to ignore, especially the amount of turnover in today's game with regards to management.

BBC Sport looked at Simon and his journey in depth in a recent article which you can find at the following link:
