RISING STAR...UEFA pro licence hold George Jermy is a respected figure in Spaintwitter.com

GEORGE JERMY is the new Head Coach of CD Almuñecar City in Spain as he takes the next step in a fascinating coaching career.

The 33-year-old UEFA Pro Licence holder and Sport Careers Agency client has been announced for season 2021/2022 with local favourite Victor Franco as his right-hand man.

Englishman Jermy, who hails from Norwich, has settled in Spain now after a globetrotting playing career that also took in England, the USA, Australia, Fiji and New Zealand.

Almuñecar City are part of the FC Malaga City academy project that helps develop players for higher levels through their youth sides, Under-23s and then senior teams who play as high as the fifth tier in the Spanish game.

They also have a flourishing and popular women's side.

George, who previously led Almuñecar to a double promotion in 2018 and 2019, is highly respected in Spain as he climbs up the coaching ranks.

Now comes the next challenge and George told the club's website: "I'm really excited and proud to be appointed Head Coach of CD Almuñecar City.

"Our vision is clear and we are determined to reach Tercera Division as soon as possible.

"CD Almuñecar City has always been massively special to me - and it is a club for the people.

"We haven't got a wealthy backer or huge grants behind us but we do have a connection with the local people who've really got on board which is much more valuable.

"Before the COVID-19 lockdown, we had a great connection with supporters - and achieved attendances of between 400 and 600 supporters each week - and an amazing match day experience. This is something we are looking to enhance."

When you examine the background of the FC Malaga City academy concept you see the kind of environment Jermy is working in.

Of the Academy staff listed for last season an incredible FIVE have UEFA Pro Licences and three have UEFA A Licences.

That's an indicator of the standards there but George is more concerned now about a human coaching connection he feels can be vital for the club this season.

He reasoned: "It's going to be great to work with Victor Franco again. We have a close personal relationship and our ideas bounce well off each other.

"To have someone who is so prominent in the town is amazing. He is a person who knows what the badge means - and it means more to him than an ordinary football club.

"Working with someone with his passion alongside you is a real driving force and he is the ideal person to be working with me.

"Last season, we decided to go down a development route with the team.

"CD Almuñecar City will be a bit more of an experienced look this season.

"We will be recruiting players that have played at higher levels and are keen to stay in a professional-style environment and buy into what we are looking to do.

"We will also be looking to find the best local Spanish players from Almuñecar and beyond to bring them through the youth system and into the first team.

"Victor and I, alongside our other support staff, are excited to build a project that the town and the club deserves."
