MAN ON A MISSION...Steve Morison's immediate aim is to lead Cardiff City away from the drop

STEVE MORISON is gearing up for a crucial three games in a week in the cut-throat English Championship after he was confirmed as Cardiff City manager until the end of the season.

The 38-year-old Sport Careers Agency client has been handed the reins at the Welsh club after impressing in a three-game stint in interim charge following the sacking of Mick McCarthy last month.

Morison, who has brought his fellow SCA client Mark Hudson in as First Team Coach, now faces up to the challenge of hauling City away from the danger zone as they lie 20th in the tough 24-team division.

Cardiff begin a critical three-game spell on Saturday away to Preston North End before hosting Hull City then travelling to Luton Town.

Steve, a legend at Millwall as a striker in his playing days, told Cardiff City TV: "The players have been excellent since Day One when we were asked to look after the team.

"They have taken everything on board and they have shown that in the performances as we have changed the style a little bit.

"The most exciting thing is that we have got the opportunity to progress that now."

Morison scored 190 league goals in 603 appearances across an excellent playing career that took in the likes of Northampton Town, Norwich City, Leeds United and Shrewsbury Town.

Yet it is Millwall where he will always be remembered most fondly scoring 92 goals in over 300 games for the Lions to lie third in the club's all-time goalscoring list.

Wales used Enfield-born Morison's ancestry to hand him 20 international caps in his playing days.

Now, as the UEFA Pro Licence holder forges a growing reputation as a coach, he is back in his adopted country with the immediate mission of sparking a surge up the table and assuring Cardiff's Championship status.
