Bowyer’s Men Win Again
- Blackpool Upset League One Bolton in EFL Cup
- Seasiders triumph 4-2 after extra time
- Two wins out of two for new manager Bowyer
Sport Careers Agency client Gary Bowyer continued his impressive start to life as Blackpool manager with a thrilling EFL Cup win over Lancashire rivals Bolton Wanderers.
The League Two Seasiders ran out 4-2 winners over their League One opponents after a breathless 120 minutes at Bloomfield Road.
Pool thought they had the tie won in normal time- second half goals from Kevin Mellor and Brad Potts put them in control after Jamie Proctor had given Bolton the lead in first half stoppage time. Wanderers forced extra time in with a 95 minute equaliser from Kaiyne Woolery.
However Bowyer's men weren't to be denied- stirkes from Jim McAlister and John Herron sealed their place in the second round.
Former Blackburn boss Bowyer was delighted with his team's showing, but quickly turned his attention towards Saturday's league encounter with Morecombe. He told the club website:
"I can't praise them enough for what they've done tonight and how they've gone about it, against a very good Bolton team. It's important that they enjoy this moment but very quickly get focused for Morecambe on Saturday."
