EYES ON THE PRIZE...Steve Evans can't wait to get started at Colwyn Bay FCbbc.co.uk

STEVE EVANS feels that he has earned his stripes as an assistant coach now he can't wait for his first challenge as a boss in his own right at Colwyn Bay FC.

At the age of 42 Evans has been there, seen it and done it in the world of Welsh football.

Wrexham-born Steve was a trainee at both Crewe Alexandra and West Bromwich Albion in the English game before returning to join The New Saints in 1999 and winning the Welsh Premier title a year later.

He had a storied career as a player in his homeland as he starred for his hometown club Wrexham and earned seven international caps under John Toshack during his time there.

Steve went on to become a legend at TNS in two more spells there and began coaching at the club five years ago before taking on the role of assistant manager.

Now, after a spell back as a player at Caernarfon Town, Evans is relishing the job of reigniting the fortunes of a club who sit sixth in the JD Cymru North table.

Steve, who is currently studying for his UEFA Pro Licence, stressed: ”I think it's a perfect fit and I'm looking forward to the challenge ahead.

”Getting back into management was always the plan and Caernarfon always knew that's what I wanted to do and where I see my future.

”I've earned my stripes so to speak through the scholarship at TNS and then as assistant manager and now I've got the opportunity as a manager.

”It's a fantastic club with masses of potential. Everybody knows that it's one of the biggest clubs in Wales.

”I can't wait to get started and hopefully the fans will be allowed back into games soon and the team can play in front of them again.”
