Margo Young Foundation

With age often comes illness and disease; Glasgow’s population is aging. In cancer alone there will be a 28% increase in cancer diagnoses over the next 20 years, with over 15,000 people dying of cancer in Scotland each year.

Along with an aging population Glasgow now has wider ethnic diversity. In response to this, Marie Curie has extended its service beyond those with a malignant illness to those with a range of life terminal illnesses.

Amongst the changes to lives illness brings will be life-altering loss faced by Children and Young People. The Margo Young Foundation hope to support emotional needs through building resilience and helping to develop ways to cope in a healthy, non-threatening way.

On 13th January 2014 Alan Young and his wife Evonne established ‘The Margo Young Foundation’ in memory of Alan’s mother who sadly lost her life to breast cancer on 13th February 1992. The charity has been approved by the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) as a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO). Charity Number is SC044578.

What we do

The aim of the ’Margo Young Foundation’ is to raise money for cancer patients and their families. The charity’s initial focus will be on funding respite support and bereavement counselling. The Margo Young Foundation in collaboration with Marie Curie Hospice (Glasgow) and Stephen Gallagher Foundation endeavours to support Children and Young People facing loss or bereavement, and those already experiencing loss or bereavement.
