A forward thinking, player focused and passionate Head Coach, David has progressed from a successful playing career to team management, player development and coach education in Scotland, Canada, Iceland & Finland. Choosing to learn and develop through a number of diverse roles at multiple levels of the game, he is able to apply a positive point of leadership to any ambitious club.

David played for clubs in Scotland, England, Iceland and Cyprus across a 20 years playing career, most notably for Dundee United FC and Celtic FC in the Scottish top flight.

AEL Limassol, Ross County FC, St Johnstone FC, Grindavik and Fylkir.

Possessing an invaluable level of experience in first team management, technical leadership, and youth coaching, David is able to utilise this knowledge to maximise team performance, effectively allocate financial resources, continually improve a club’s coaching resources, and ensure there is a cohesive development pathway in place for young players.

Key Achievements

  • Gained invaluable experience in managing large and complex football programmes in Canada, with over 3,500 players at Waterloo United, 2,000 players at Brams United and 9,500 players at West Ottawa ranging from U8 to U21 level
  • Coached and developed several players that have gone on to earn international honours for Canada at youth level
  • Drove staff education and learning at Brams United, leading to approx. 95% of coaches (the majority voluntary) earning coaching certification through the Canadian Soccer Association
  • Finished 4th in the league with Einherji after going the whole of the 2011 season unbeaten at home
  • Led the University of Dundee to the first major trophy in the football programme’s history, winning the 2010/11 Scottish BUCs Confederations Cup
  • Appointed at KF Fjardabyggd with the club bottom of the Iceland 1st Division, turning around performances through positive management and tactical decision making that saw the team eventually finish 7th and outside the relegation zone
  • Managed Montrose on an interim basis while still playing for the club, achieving a 50% win rate in 8 matches
  • Won the 1997/98 Scottish Premier League and Scottish League Cup double with Celtic
  • Won the 1993/94 Scottish Cup with Dundee United
  • Earned 17 Caps for the Scotland national U21 team
