An intelligent and tactically astute player who has successfully began the transition into coaching and player development, making key contributions at both U20 and 1st team level at current club Dundee FC.
A driven and forward thinking professional who is able to provide a positive presence both on and off the pitch, effectively organising a defence while providing strong leadership and mentoring in the dressing room.
Due to suffering a serious injury James has used the time to gather valuable coaching experience with the youth team and also in a first team environment.

Key Achievements
- Captained Hibernian to the final of the 2011/12 Scottish Cup final, scoring against local rivals Hearts
- Won Dundee’s 2014/15 Player of the Year award
- Won the 2011/12 Hibernian TV Player of the Year award despite arriving at the club halfway through the season
- Won the 2006/07 Supporters’ Player of the Year and club Young Player of the Year awards at Livingston
- Won the Coventry City Former Players Association Player of the Year Award following a superb 2009/10 season
- Helped Hibernian reach the final of the 2012/13 Scottish Cup for the second successive season
- Played in the Europa League with Hibernian in the 2013/14 qualifying stages against Swedish side Malmö FF
- Part of the highly successful Livingston youth setup that produced several future international players including Robert Snodgrass, Leigh Griffiths and Graham Dorrans
