John Carver is a forward thinking manager, highly skilled coach and focused leader with over 30 years experience’ in the game.

He has managed or coached in over 700 professional games in English and European competition, learning under exceptional managers such as Sir Bobby Robson. John has since gained direct experience in the field as the First Team Manager / Head Coach of AC Omonia, Newcastle United FC and Toronto FC, learning how to coordinate club functions, liaise with the media and establish an infrastructure and culture that will help support sustainable long term success.

John is able to provide tangible contributions to an ambitious club in either a managerial capacity or a more supporting role, where his commitment to continuous player development, intelligent talent ID and innovative sports science & performance analysis can allow him to be a driving force behind club progression.

Key Achievements

  • Worked with top managers like Sir Bobby Robson, Kenny Dalglish, Alan Pardew, Kevin Keegan, Graeme Souness and Ruud Gullit.
  • Finished 4th with Newcastle in 2001/02 and 3rd in 2002/03 to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, progressing from a group containing Juventus, Dynamo Kiev and Feyenoord to reach the second group stage with Barcelona, Inter Milan and Bayer Leverkusen.
  • Reached the UEFA Cup semi-finals with Newcastle in 2003/04 to face a highly rated Olympique Marseille team led by Didier Drogba.
  • Departed with a win percentage of 54.84% in 31 games (17W; 8D; 6L), scoring the third highest number of goals in the league with AC Omosia
  • Contributed to the recruitment of a number of players into first team regulars at AC Omosia, including: former Blackburn Rovers and Olympiacos striker Matt Derbyshire; former Romanian international George Florescu and Cape Verde national Carlitos
  • Accumulated 35 points in the 2008 season- more than double than the previous season & finished 4 points outside of the play-off positions. This form continued into the 2009 season, winning 11 points from the first 6 games before departure at Toronto FC.
  • Successfully navigated the complex MLS transfer system in which teams must be assured of a replacement player from another club / franchise before ‘selling’ their own player.
  • Oversaw a significant overhaul of the playing squad at Toronto FC - with 18 players leaving the team and 15 being brought in - while building a highly competitive, motivated and organised unit on and off the pitch.
  • Finished the 2011/12 season at Newcastle in 5th place ahead of Chelsea, Everton and Liverpool, qualifying for the UEFA Europa League and recording notable victories over Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool.
  • Reached the UEFA Europa League quarter-finals in 2012 with Newcastle to face eventual runners-up SL Benfica.
  • Played a key role in significant player development at Newcastle in which several young players progressed to become major first team players, including: Kieron Dyer, Craig Bellamy, Jonathan Woodgate, Steven Taylor and Jermaine Jenas.
  • Coached players like Alan Shearer, Shay Given, Andy Carroll, Craig Bellamy, Fraser Forster and Aaron Hughes.
  • Contributed to the development of players such as Michael Carrick, James Milner, Danny Rose, James Tavernier, Yannick Bolasie, Fabian Delph, Charles N’Zogbia and many more.
