Simon Wilshaw

Lead Coach

  • Date Joined: 1st January 2020
I am a highly ambitious and driven UEFA and CSA qualified coach who has constructed a strong portfolio of achievements and experience during my coaching career through roles in England, Spain, USA and Canada.

Established as a forward thinking and innovative coach, I possess a proven track record in player development, in devising and designing coaching curriculums and I have displayed a capacity to lead across all areas of training and match day operations.

Furthermore I am an accomplished visible leader with a clear playing philosophy and well defined coaching methods who motivates players to fulfil their potential. I also relish roles of increased responsibility and playing a key role within a multi-disciplined coaching set up.

Testimonials:

“First and foremost, Simon is a motivator. Outside of football itself, he understands what drives an athlete and is able to identify individual factors that will lead to improvement. Simon always took time to listen to me and recognise my goals. Simon always created a team atmosphere within a discipline and cohesive framework where we could all grow in ability (physically, mentally and emotionally).” - Matteo de Brienne: Player, Vancouver Whitecaps FC Academy

“Simon was always a very honest and direct coach. He wouldn’t hesitate to let me know in a constructive manner when I was not performing as well as I should be. But the most important thing I remember from my atime. He was always clear in his instructions and therefore the team always knew what the game plan was and had a certain style of play.” - Mehdi Essoussi: Player, Toronto FC Reserves

“I have had the great opportunity to know Simon for several years and observe his coaching and teaching of players at all ages and levels. His attention to detail, passion for the game and determination to improve both the players he works with and his own self-development are evident in everything he does. Simon is also an incredibly generous team mate to other coaches and his commitment to his coaching goes well beyond the field of play.” - Nick Dunbar: Technical Advisor, Club Champions League New England

“One of the most challenging filters for a development coach is to set a technical standard with their players. In my experience with Simon Wilshaw this is not the case. Simon Wilshaw knows from a 360 degree approach of what it takes for a player to transition from an elite competitive environment to a young professional or youth international. He brings an energy and positive attitude to each training that is infectious, and encourages each of his players to strive to improve. I would whole heartedly recommend Simon to anyone who wants their Club or Academy program to grow both technically and confidently to the next level.” - Bryan Rosenfeld: Interim Director Soccer Operations & Provincial Excel, Ontario Soccer

“Simon is a hard working and dedicated coach who has vast experience in developing players. His success stems from his attention to detail and ability to communicate with people.” - Duane Allen: Lead Foundation Phase Coach, Walsall FC
