Stephen McDonnell
Manager
- Date Joined: 25th November 2019
Having had my professional playing career cut short at the age of (22) due to a heart defect I have managed to apply myself into a new career within the game. To date I have worked as a first team coach, I have also held down a role as Youth Development Officer and until recently (October 2019) I was first team manager of Warrenpoint Town Football Club who play in the Danske Bank Irish Premiership.
Over my career I have played with Celtic FC, Dundalk FC, Shelbourne FC and Warrenpoint Town FC. I represented my country (Republic Of Ireland) from U15 through to U19 and was awarded U17 International player of the year in (2010). I played in total (77) first team appearances for all clubs combined. I also had the experience of a Europa League qualifier and a Setanta Cup final whilst at Dundalk FC.
The managers who have had the biggest influence on my career to date are Stephen Kenny, Tommy Burn’s and Sean McCaffrey. What I have taken from these men is a strong work ethic towards everyday management and a driven approach to be the best you can be everyday. I share similar beliefs and values to all three men and I believe in sticking to principles which I have had success with to date in my own management career. At Warrenpoint Town, over the last number of years, we have been highly successful in creating our identity and brand of exciting football, I believe in dominating opposition teams with a high emphasis on possession based football. My staff believe our job is to develop and educate players on a daily basis, we trust in this process as we believe this stimulates and focuses players.
I secured my UEFA A Licence in 2017
